Safeguarding at Foyle College

Safeguarding is the ethos that is evident throughout the school and applies to all pupils and staff.  With our effective Safeguarding procedures in place, pupil welfare is promoted (through our notices, Assemblies and preventative curriculum for example), pupil harm is prevented (through risk assessments and positive behaviour management for example) and specific child protection measures are taken as required.

The Foyle Safeguarding Team (comprising the Principal, Designated and Deputy Designated Teachers and the Designated Governor), along with essential safeguarding information, are publicised throughout the school on our infographic, as is our message to pupils that “We’re Here For You”.  All staff participate in Safeguarding and Child Protection Training on an annual basis, and key staff have additional training provided by the Education Authority.

Pupils are advised of our Safeguarding procedures at a dedicated Assembly and are reminded of the many ways in which their safety and security is managed at all levels.  Our pupils spend a lot of their time in school, and our message to them is that if they are carrying worries or concerns it affects their ability to make the most of the opportunities that are available to them.

We encourage all our pupils to ask for help when they need it, and we endeavour at all levels to keep them safe and secure.
